Private messaging for iPhone

Your messages live on your phone, not on our servers.

Simit delivers your message, then forgets it. As soon as it reaches your friend's phone, it's permanently deleted from our servers. And only people who have your number saved can message you.

  • Deleted from our servers after delivery
  • Mutual contacts only
  • No ads or trackers

We don't keep your messages

Our servers are a relay, not an archive. Your history lives only on your phone and theirs.

Only people you know

Direct messages need both of you to have each other's number saved. Strangers can't reach you.

Groups need your yes

Nobody can drop you into a group. You see who invited you and decide whether to join.

Why Simit

Private by architecture, not just by promise

Simit is built so there's as little as possible on our servers to begin with.

Delivered, then deleted

Once it arrives, it's gone from our servers

Your message waits on our servers only until your friend's phone has it. Then it's permanently deleted, along with its edits and read receipts. If they never come online, it's deleted after 30 days anyway.

  • No message history on our servers
  • Delete for everyone removes it from their phone too
  • Search runs on your phone, over messages stored on your phone

Private photos

Photos without links

Every photo is encrypted on your phone with its own random key before it's uploaded. It goes to private storage, never to a public link or CDN, and it's deleted as soon as everyone in the chat has it.

  • A new encryption key for every photo
  • No shareable links and no public CDN
  • Deleted from storage once delivered (30 days at most)

Hidden previews

Notifications that don't give you away

Notification previews are set to Name only by default, so message text doesn't appear on your lock screen or pass through Apple's push service. Show more only if you want to.

  • Choose Nothing, Name only, or Name and message
  • Name only is the default
  • Message text goes through Apple's push service only if you turn it on

Registration Lock

Protection against SIM swaps

If someone hijacks your phone number, they can receive your SMS code. With a Registration Lock PIN, that still isn't enough: they can't register your Simit account on another phone without the PIN.

  • Optional, and recommended
  • A 6 to 12 digit PIN you choose
  • Forgot it? You can register again after 7 days of inactivity

Straight talk about encryption

Simit is not end-to-end encrypted. Messages are encrypted in transit with TLS and, while briefly waiting for delivery, are held on our servers in a form our systems can process. Once delivered, they're deleted from our servers. We don't keep your messages, and we can't retrieve ones that have already been delivered.

Why isn't Simit end-to-end encrypted? Instead of encrypting a message archive, we chose not to keep one. While a message waits for delivery, it's on our server in a form our systems can process. Read the full answer.

Pricing
