Features

Everything Simit does, in detail

A focused messenger that does the essentials well, keeps your inbox for people you know, and keeps your history on your phone.

Privacy architecture

Built so there's nothing to keep

Our servers relay your messages. Your phone keeps them.

Delivered, then deleted

Messages, edits and read receipts are held on our servers only until the recipient's phone has them, then permanently deleted. If the recipient stays offline, they're deleted after 30 days regardless.

Private photos, no links

Each photo is encrypted on your phone with its own random key, uploaded to private storage (never a public link or CDN), and deleted once every recipient has it. 30 days at most.

History on your phone

Your conversations live only on your phone and the phones you talk to. Signing out or deleting the app deletes them from that phone.

Hidden notification previews

Previews default to Name only. Choose Nothing, Name only, or Name and message. Message text passes through Apple's push service only if you turn it on.

Registration Lock

An optional PIN that stops someone who has taken over your number (a SIM swap) from registering your account on another phone.

You control backups

"Include messages in iPhone backup" is off by default, so messages never leave your phone. Turn it on to include them in your iCloud or computer backup.

Sign in & Registration Lock

Your phone number is your account

No usernames to invent and no passwords to forget. Enter your number, type the one-time code we text you, and you're ready to go. Add a Registration Lock PIN for extra protection.

  • One-time SMS verification code
  • No email address or password required
  • Optional Registration Lock PIN protects against SIM swaps
  • Pick a display name and an optional profile photo

Chat list

All your conversations, at a glance

Your chats sorted by the latest message, with previews, unread counts and a search bar to find any conversation fast. Everything here is stored on your phone.

  • Search chats by name or participant
  • Pending group invites appear at the top with a badge
  • Swipe to delete a chat you no longer need

Conversations

Real-time messaging that just works

Messages are delivered instantly over an encrypted connection. You can see when the other person is typing, when your message has been delivered and read, and whether they're online.

  • Text, emoji and photos from your library
  • Reply to a specific message
  • Edit your messages. An edited label shows the change for everyone
  • Delete for everyone removes the message from their phones too
  • Forward messages to other chats, or copy text
  • Search a conversation, right on your phone

Groups

Group chats for the people you choose

Start a group with your contacts, give it a name and chat together in real time. Members you've invited show as Invited until they accept.

  • Create a group from your contacts and name it
  • See every member, including pending invites
  • Group notifications can be controlled separately
  • Report a group directly from the group's info screen

Group invites

Joining a group is always your choice

Being added to a group sends you an invite. You see the group name, who invited you and the members, and Simit warns you if anyone you've blocked is already there.

  • Accept or decline every group invite
  • Clear warning: You've blocked N people in this group
  • Nothing from the group reaches you until you accept
  • You can turn off group invites entirely in Privacy settings

Contacts

Find your friends, keep their names private

Allow contact access to see which friends already use Simit, or add people one at a time by phone number. Only phone numbers are checked. The names you saved never leave your phone.

  • Contact names never leave your phone
  • Numbers are matched using keyed hashes; raw address-book numbers aren't stored
  • Add a contact by phone number, no address-book access needed
  • Phone numbers stay hidden from people who don't already have them

Match status

Always know why you can or can't chat

Direct chats need a mutual match. When you're not matched yet, Simit explains why above the composer and checks again automatically when things change.

  • Not matched yet: they need your number saved, or haven't synced yet
  • Add them: they have you, you just need to add them back
  • Tap Check again any time, or wait for the live update

Privacy & App Lock

Controls that put you in charge

Lock Simit with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, hide previews in the app switcher, and decide exactly what other people can see about you.

  • App Lock with Face ID, Touch ID or passcode
  • Chats blurred in the app switcher
  • Choose who sees your last seen, profile photo and about info
  • Fair by design: hide your last seen and you won't see others'; turn off read receipts and you won't get theirs
  • Control message forwarding and who can invite you to groups
  • Manage blocked users, and export or delete your account data

Being upfront

What Simit doesn't do

We'd rather tell you clearly than overpromise. These aren't part of Simit today.

  • End-to-end encryption. Messages are encrypted in transit and deleted from our servers after delivery, but not end-to-end encrypted (details)
  • Keeping your message history in the cloud. That's deliberate: history lives on your phone
  • Voice or video calls
  • Sending voice messages, videos, documents or locations
  • Stories or status updates
  • Desktop, web or iPad apps, or using one account on several devices at once

Every feature above is included in one plan: your first year is free, then US$0.99/year. No ads, no data selling. See pricing.
